Tips for Conserving Energy

Around 40% of DAS’ costs for building maintenance consist of energy costs, in other words: heating, electricity and water. Therefore, conserving energy means also smaller amount of rent.

With simple measures, we can all affect energy consumption and our environment. By turning off unnecessary lights, closing front doors, ventilating correctly and using water cautiously – we can all do our share.

This is how you can conserve energy

By changing your habitual use of water, you can affect the total water consumption in your building significantly. Use water only when you actually need it. Close the tap when you do not need water, for example when spreading shampoo to your hair. There is no need to run water through the tap for the whole time when shaving, or brushing your teeth.

Kitchen

Rinsing dishes under running water consumes a lot of water, so avoid using excess water. Modern dishwashers are ecological. The consumption is approximately 15 litres per wash, which amounts to about a minute of rinsing under running water. See the separate tab concerning dishwashers.

WC

Use the dual flush according to your needs. Flushing down dry trash down the toilet consumes unnecessary amounts of water. When you place a trashcan in the toilet for the dry rubbish, no water is needed for flushing it down. Additionally, dry rubbish can also flock the drains and pipes.

Heating

The room temperature in the apartments is set to 19 - 21 C. This temperature may feel cool to some tenants, but according to research, it is the most beneficial to one’s health. The amount of dust increases as the temperate increases. Additionally, increasing the temperature by one degree would increase the heating costs by 5%. The room temperature is regulated with a thermostat. In order to function, the thermostat requires space and time. Do not place heavy curtains or heat-radiating devices such as the TV or computer in front of the thermostat. Also, do not hide the thermostat under a thick table. The thermostat cannot detect the room temperature if air circulation is blocked. The thermostat must not be twisted with force, their adjustability is only around 2-3 degrees. The thermostatic radiator vent takes into consideration the heat coming from the sun, electronic devices, lighting and people. Also notice that the sudden changes in the outdoor temperature take time for the thermostats to adjust to.

Separate indoor heaters are forbidden, because they disturb the heating system in the building and lead to an increase in energy consumption.
